[Objective] To evaluate electrophysiological findings and comparative study with steroids treatment of acute peripheral facial palsy in diabetic and non-diabetic patients.[Methods] Selected 41 patients with peripheral facial paralysis, 20 patients with non-diabetic mellitus and 21 patients with diabetic mellitus ,were treated with conventional steroids therapy、short-term steroids therapy、without steroids therapy, compared the effects of three different treatment methods.[Results] Whether patients with mild to moderate or severe facial paralysis,non-diabetic group with steroids therapy is best。For patients with mild to moderate facial paralysis, diabetic group without hormone therapy is better than diabetic group with hormone therapy ; for severe patients, the two methods were not different. The severely sbnormal rate of the nerve conduction velocity and blink reflex in diabetic group were significantly higher than the one in non-diabetic group.[Conclusion] The facial palsy associated with diabetes patients, regardless of severity, control blood sugar in normal range as possible is the foundation. The serious facial paralysis associated with diabetes mellirus can be considered short-term steroids therapy. Even patients with severe facial paralysis, hormone therapy also does not improve the prognosis. |
