Objective:To compare the safety and efficacy of ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for ureteral upper calculi. Methods:72 patients underwent ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy,54 patients underwent ESWL, The operation time,stone-free rate and incidence rate of complications were compared between the 2 groups. Results:The mean operation time of ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy for calculi was 40±9min,which was 42±8min with ESWL(P>0.05). The Success rate was 95.83% for ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy. It was higher than 83.33% with ESWL (P<0.05). The stone-free rate after 3 months was 91.67% for ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy. Itwas higher than 74.07% with ESWL (P<0.05). The complication rate was 5.56% (4/72) in the group of ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy, which was 3.70% with ESWL(2/54)(P>0.05).Conclusions:Our study demonstrates that ureteroscopy with holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy for upper calculi is more effective than ESWL. |
