【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effectiveness and safety of Gabapentin in the treatment of postherpefie neuralgia. Methods A total of 77 patients with PHN were randomly divided into control group who received Ibuprofen therapy (n=37) and treatment group who received gabapentin therapy (n=40).The quantification of severity of pain was done using visual analogue scale(VAS) after 4 weeks. Adverse reactions were also observed. Results The effective rate was 72.50% in the treatment group and 48.64% in the control group with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0•05). The average VAS score was 2•28±0•96 in the treatment group and 3•49±1•45 in the control group with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0•01). Gabapentin was well tolerated, and the most common adverse events were dizziness, vertigo, somnolence and transient abnormality of hepatic function. Conclusion Gabapentin provides significant pain relief in patients of PHN, with very little incidence of adverse reactions. |
