AbstractAim:To observe the safety and efficacy of low dosage of generic simvastatin on long term management of high cholesterols. Method: All patients in this study were diagnosed with high cholesterols and agreed to participate in this study. Simvastatin was given in 10 mg/day before bedtime for consecutive 20 days, and then stopped for 10 days before retaking simvastatin again. Lipid panel including total cholesterols (TC), triglyceride (TG) and LDL-C was monitored before and during the treatment. Serum levels of creatine kinase (CK) and ALT were monitored for liver function and myopathy. Results: Cholesterol levels in all patients were significantly reduced after enrolled for 90-720 days (P<0.05), while CK and ALT were not significantly elevated (P>0.05). Conclusion: Low dosage of generic simvastatin is safe and effective on long term management of high cholesterols. The rejimentation is safe, cost-effective and easy to comply. |
