Objective：To observe the curative effect external therapy of TCM combined sacral canal infusion on prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc. Method：60 patients with prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc were randomly divided into group A（external therapy of TCM combined sacral canal infusion）and group B（sacral canal infusion only）with 20 patients each.All patients. All the patients received 3 courses of treatment and guided muscle exercises of back and waist. Lumbar JOA scores,degree of back pain before treatment and at the end of each treatment cycle and the overall treatment efficiency was evaluated were evaluated and made a comparison between 2 groups. Result：The relief of back pain in group A was better than that in group B, the difference was statistically significant by the end of first week（P<0.05）. The JOA scores of patients in group A ware significantly better than that in B group after the treatment（P＞0.05）, Conclusion：External therapy of TCM could reduce the pain of patients with lumbar disc herniationi,mprove the function of patients,and had a better clinical therapeutic effect combined with therapy of sacral canal injection.
