Objective: To analyze the significance of serum hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) and C-reactive protein(CRP) expression in patients with ulcerative colitis. Methods: Ninety cases of ulcerative colitis patients in our hospital were selected as research subjects, of whom 69 patients in active stage and 21 patients in remission stage were respectively divided into active group and relief group. Another 40 healthy controls were used as control group. The levels of serum HIF-1α and CRP in the three groups were measured by ELISA. Colonoscopy was performed on the active group and the severity of the disease was assessed. Results: The levels of serum HIF-1α and CRP in the active group were higher than those in the relief group(t=2.89, 3.12, P<0.05) and those in the control group(t=2.96, 2.76, P<0.05), while the levels ofserumHIF-1α and CRP in the relief group showed no significant differences in comparison with the control group(t=0.74, 0.35, P>0.05). The serum levels of HIF-1α and CRP were significantly correlated with the severity of the disease(r=0.71, 0.63) and endoscopic grading(r=0.76,0.69) in patients with ulcerative colitis(P<0.05). Conclusion: The expression ofserum HIF-1α and CRP is closely related to the severity and endoscopic grading of ulcerative colitis, suggesting that HIF-1α and CRP may play a significant role in the development and progression of ulcerative colitis. Combined detection of HIF-1α and CRP can be used as important indexes to evaluate the severity of ulcerative colitis. |
