[Abtract] Objective To analyse the effect and economics of NIPPV in treating COPD acute exacerbation with type Ⅱ resPiratory failure. Methods 127 cases of COPD in acute exacerbation with type Ⅱ respiratory falure were divided into two groups, 62 cases in The contorl group with drug treatment,62 cases in the study group were treated with NIPPV . Analysis was perfomred for parameters such as breath rate,the heart rate and crackles of lung before and after treatment.The measure of arterial gas analysis before and after the treatment was compared. The average hospitalization stay and patient costs were compared between the two groups.Results The heart rate，respiratory rate and the measure of arterial gas analysis in the treatment group were improved significantly more than that in the control group. The treatment group had shorter average hospitaluzation stay than the control group.Further more,the hospitalization of cost of the treatment group was remarkably less than that in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions This study suggests that NIPPV treatment is effective in the treatment of COPD acute exacerbation with type Ⅱ respiratory failure.It can reduce hospitalization stay and average coat.
